Special Feature: Arcadia in Traverse Magazine

A VERY SPECIAL POST: ARCADIA HOME – ARDNAMARE

This special post follows a home recently featured in Traverse Magazine from concept to completion. Building dreams starts with an idea and a location. When you add a refined design process, and a high-touch build phase, customers keep coming back. We were pleased to work with these clients on their dream home, and are already discussing future projects for a garage/living space and a house next door for mom.

THE IDEA

It began as a childhood love-affair with the Lake Michigan coast, blossomed in a home with beautiful French country antiques, and became the idea for a “when-life-slows-down” home. The home itself sprang from a seaside layout with all the right function and all the wrong exterior. After years of scouting, the couple found the perfect picturesque setting reminiscent of the Irish coast. Finally, add a world-class golf club and sweeping views of Lake Michigan. Unsalted perfection.

THE LOCATION

This freshwater Irish coast sits about a five-hour drive north of Chicago, and an hour southwest of Traverse City. The scent of Lake Michigan carries on the wind to this home’s perch 450 feet above the waves. On the bluff, dancing dune grasses give way to spectacular panoramic views, most-stunningly at sunset.

THE PROCESS

We helped the owners achieve their coastal “Nantucket meets farmhouse” look on the windswept dunes overlooking Lake Michigan. Every detail fit both the look of the architectural design the couple dreamed of and site-specific concerns like year-round winds. Every window, door, fireplace, material, and color fit these needs perfectly. Our experience assessing challenging sites is crucial for an excellent homeowner experience of a beautiful home like this.

THE BUILD

Significant slopes and winds presented both design and build challenges we excel at overcoming. As is commonly the case for Silverwood Enterprises, the homeowners lived in a location hours away. Both design and build were completed remotely for the clients. This requires a high level of communication and clarification on a weekly basis – something we pride ourselves on.
